The cartridge is the heart of a turbo: the shaft with its wheels and the bearing assembly. We replace or rebuild it and always balance it on a machine.

When the cartridge is replaced
If the shaft has play, the wheels rub the housing or the turbo leaks oil while the housings are intact, only the cartridge is replaced. That costs less than replacing the whole turbo.
Why balancing matters
A turbo shaft spins at well over one hundred thousand rpm. Even a small imbalance causes vibration, whistling and fast bearing wear, so every cartridge is balanced on a Balance machine.
